Review: Fota Island Resort Spa

I had the pleasure of staying at Fota Island Resort in Cork twice last month but considering both times were for business, I’m lucky I made it to the spa on at least one of the occasions!

During my first stay I arrived down quite late and had an early start the following morning so second time around, I made it my business to get down to the resort at around 4pm to make it on time for the last appointment.

There’s over 60 rejuvenating treatments to choose from at Fota Island Resort Spa but I went for the Harmony Full Body Massage which is a 50 minute treatment priced at €95.

This massage combines both hot stone massage therapy and Swedish massage. The Basalt lava stones are used in conjunction with classic massage movements to ensure a truly complete massage experience.

It was unbelievably amazing!

Both before and after the treatment I was able to chill out in various relaxation rooms around the spa. The first room I entered was very dimly lit and the relaxing sounds of trickling water came courtesy of the mini waterfall situated in the corner of the room. The loungers were also heated, one of the little extras that differentiates Fota Island Resort Spa from the rest.

After my massage I went to another relaxation room, this one completely lit naturally via the floor to ceiling facade of glass that travelled the length of the room. Here I was served fresh fruit, yoghurt and fresh orange juice.

After I devoured my platter of treats I made my way to the Hydratherapy Suite – home to Ireland’s only walking river, which is renowned for its assistance in healing sports and fatigue related injuries. The hydrotherapy pool has nine different areas specifically designed to massage the entire body.

Fota Island Resort Spa also boasts an 18m indoor heated swimming pool, a fully quipped gym, tennis courts and a spin academy which features 20 of the highest standard spinning bikes. (Fota Island Resort offer a wide range of spinning classes taught by experienced personal trainers)
